About Joy and Light

The JAL (Joy and Light) trust is a dedicated non-profit organization based in Pondicherry, committed to supporting some of the most vulnerable members of the society. The foundation operates 2 distinct Homes - SHINE Children's Home and AYUSH Old-Age Home.

SHINE Children's Home is a sanctuary for children battling cancer, offering them shelter, nutritious food, transport to and from JIPMER Hospital, and informal education to ensure their holistic well-being and development. Recognizing the pivotal role of mothers in the recovery and support of these children, SHINE also provides skills training programs to empower the mothers equipping them with practical skills to improve their socio-economic status and better support their families.

AYUSH Old-Age Home serves abandoned and destitute senior citizens providing them with free shelter, clothing and food. This home is a haven for elderly individuals who have nowhere else to turn to, ensuring they receive the care, respect, and dignity they deserve in their twilight years.

The JAL Trust prides itself on maintaining a fully transparent policy regarding donations. They ensure that every contribution is used effectively and responsibly, regularly publishing detailed financial reports and audits. These reports are readily accessible to all donors and stakeholders, re-enforcing the foundation's commitment to accountability and trust.

Through these initiatives, the JAL Trust not only addresses the immediate needs of children with cancer and abandoned senior citizens, but also foster a sense of hope, dignity, and community among those they serve.

Welcome to JAL!

As the founder of this noble endeavor, I am humbled to share with you our journey of compassion and dedication. In 2016, driven by a heartfelt desire to make a difference, we set out on a mission to provide solace to the homeless and destitute senior citizens in our society. Thus, the seeds of JAL were sown with the establishment of an old-age home, a sanctuary where the elderly could find shelter, care, and companionship in their twilight years.

However, our journey took a significant turn in 2017 when we became aware of the plight faced by cancer-stricken children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Their struggle touched our hearts deeply, compelling us to extend our reach and embrace them within our fold. With unwavering resolve, we expanded our efforts to include support for these brave young souls, offering them hope, comfort, and the necessary medical assistance they deserve.

Every day, our dedicated team of employees and volunteers tirelessly devote themselves to enhancing the lives of nearly 100 beneficiaries. Their commitment knows no bounds as they strive to create a safe and nurturing environment where individuals can heal, thrive, and engage in meaningful activities. We cherish and celebrate the invaluable contributions of each beneficiary, recognizing them as integral partners in our shared mission.
